Hot Hot Hot

Flying back down from Lhasa you forget how humid China is. I had to take two flights to get to Hong Kong as there was no direct flights from Lhasa to Hong Kong. Not really a problem but it did mean I had to shell out a extra £70 to get a flight to Gaungdong which is on the boarder of Hong Kong, I was hoping to arrive in style to Hong Kong by catching the ferry but I missed the last ferry by a couple of hours. DOH. It was the same news with the direct train to HK. My only option was to fly so again I was boarding another plane straight to HK. It was only 30mins in the air so no time for a kip. I landed at the new airport and remembered that I had all those pirate DVDs in my bag so I was shitting it a bit walking though custom’s but being British I knew they wouldn’t touch me……. We made this Island what it is today. GOD BLESS THE BRITISH. HA HA

I hadn’t been to HK since 1995 so i was keen to see what had changed about the island. The first thing is the transport, it must be one of the best train and underground networks in the world, modern, fast and cheap. Also the skyline had changed with new buildings on the skyline like the very impressive IFC and Bank of China buildings.

My memories of Victoria Peak had changed as well. I remember there being very little buildings up there but now there are hotels and malls up there. I’m surprised there is any room left to build on the island. Still the view is amazing from up there, it has to be the worlds greatest skyline in the world.

Also, at 8pm every night they have the symphony of lights was is this crazy thing where all the lights on the building dance to music that is played on the keyside in Kowloon.

I didn’t do to much in Hong Kong the 7 days I was there, I took a few day trips to places and other Islands. I went to see the world largest bronze Buddha statue on the Island of Lantau.

After Tibet most other Buddhist places seem to just tourist attractions. I also went to Macau to check out the Casinos. Macau is a little dull to say the least. Still its nice to see new things and loose some money from time to time.

Other than that I went shopping at night markerts and shopping for Palm but came out with a iBook. Everything is so bloody cheap in HK. I love TAX free countries :-) thank you again to everyone who donated some cash. I haven’t forgotten about you lot.

Next stop is back to South Africa…… but not all is right, i have a feeling that something is going on even before I got there. :-(
